What Causes HVAC to Freeze Up?

What to Do When Your HVAC Freezes Up
- Turn the system completely off. Do not try to run a frozen system -- it will not cool effectively and continuing operation can damage the compressor.
- Set the fan to ON (not auto) to run the fan continuously without the compressor. This speeds defrosting.
- Wait 2-4 hours for the ice to melt. Do not use a hair dryer or heat gun to speed the process.
